GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Two former Communist countries, Bulgaria and Romania, will ring in the new year as members of the European Union on Jan. 1 — signifying the stability of their democracies.
The University of Florida and the Martin Luther King Commission of Florida Inc. are partnering on the “Helping Our Neighbors” holiday food project.

The model home will be used to showcase the best ways to provide good quality, cost-effective housing for migrant farm workers that can withstand Florida’s unpredictable weather.
The goal of the community partnership is to provide help to our neighbors who live in the outlying and rural areas in Alachua County. On Nov. 20, more than 200 Thanksgiving baskets will be delivered to families in Alachua, Archer, Hawthorne, High Springs, LaCrosse, Micanopy, Newberry, Waldo and Grove Park.
The crop simulation lab was part of Bostick’s work area as a graduate student. Officials, including Jimmy Cheek, senior vice president for agriculture and natural resources, will speak. Bostick’s family is expected to attend the short ceremony.
